Masks

'Masks'  have been a major preoccupation of Jacqui’s work while she was living in Miri, reflecting those of the indigenous tribes in the region. Yet, the masks also look further afield to Africa and other parts of Asia, in the serene beauty of a sleeping Buddha or a Geisha-inspired piece.

Jacqui’s Masks represent faces of different cultures and expressions, representing festivity and celebrations, some inspired by the tribes from Borneo, some by the Yuroba tribe from Nigeria – a people who themselves have a long history of glass-making.

The bases for the Masks are shaped by flat wooden panels articulated with other smaller wooden sections, which are giving the faces depth and some say “their intriguing stare”.
