For Jacqui, the closest thing to a snapshot of her sketchbooks are what she calls her ‘Crosswords’. They’re made up of a base of numerous squares of wood, each one layered at a different height, all together creating a 3D landscape.

Each individual mosaic square holds a variety of elements of life, all from her memory: patterns, animals, creatures, faces, experiences, thoughts. These ‘Crosswords’ landscapes ultimately show the smaller thoughts and observations that make up the bigger picture of Jacqui’s mosaic worlds.

Like actual crosswords, one starts with a clue and arrives at an answer to fit into a space. If you stand back, you can see the contrasts between the different mosaic squares. Each crossword is built up over a period of time. Different elements are added throughout different phases of her life – each one relevant and dependent on what’s serving her inspiration at that particular moment in time.
